Length: 48 to 53 feet
Width: 8 feet, 6 inches
Deck Height: 60 inches
Weight Capacity: 48,000 lbs*
Why Use It? The standard flatbed trailer is extremely versatile, with 48 feet or 53’ configurations available to load materials or equipment. Flatbeds are preferably used when the shipping or receiving location does not have a dock available for loading and unloading, or when the cargo needs side or crane loading.
*Cargo weight limit varies by trailer manufacturer.
Length: 48 to 53 feet (top deck is 11 feet long)
Width: 8 feet, 6 inches
Deck Height: 60-inch top deck and 42-inch bottom deck
Weight Capacity: 43,000 lbs
Why Use It? Also known as a “single-drop” trailer, the step deck flatbed has a lower rear deck. This allows the step deck to haul loads that are too tall to be transported with a standard flatbed trailer and still require a 30- to 42-foot bed length with 8’ or 10’ upper deck.
Length: 29 feet (bottom well)
Double Drop Stretch can open up to 50’ in the well)
Width: 8 feet, 6 inches
Over Width, Loads can be permitted
Deck Height: 18 to 24 inches (depends on manufacturer)
Weight Capacity: 40,000 lbs. can be permitted for additional weight
Double drop trailers are used to haul overly high loads without having to order State permits for an overheight load. Also called a “double-drop,” the lowboy flatbed is used to haul equipment or goods that are taller than a flatbed or single-drop trailer can legally accommodate. This trailer is often used to haul industrial equipment and Machinery. Over height and width shipments can be permitted to increase the height/width that can be transported. Depending on height and width pilot car escorts may be required on over dimensional shipments.
Length: 24 to 29 feet (main deck)
Width: 8 feet, 5 inches
Deck Height: 18 to 24 inches
Weight Capacity: 42,000 lbs
Why Use It? The removable gooseneck is good for carrying loads that are over legal height limits and require the ability to drive-on or drive-off. The trailer’s front can be detached and used as a ramp to load and unload materials and equipment. Loads like trucks and other heavy, motorized equipment can be driven onto a removable gooseneck trailer.
